Place-Based Impact Investing

Thursday, November 14, 2019

On behalf of San Diego GrantmakersThe California EndowmentThe Jewish Community Foundation of San Diego, and our partners at Mission Investors ExchangePhilanthropy California and ImPower, an initiative housed at the Council on Foundations, we are pleased to announce Place-based Impact Investing in Action, a day-long gathering on Thursday, November 14, focused on place-based impact investing and introducing the ImPower initiative.

The ImPower Initiative is a collaborative effort generously supported by the Surdna Foundation that is bringing leaders together from across sectors to explore how government resources can be leveraged to grow and align investments and deepen community-driven impact investing ecosystems. Local and national efforts under the ImPower umbrella build capacity and connections to equip communities to build and sustain impact deal flow.

Through this convening, San Diego will serve as an innovation lab, showing how communities, philanthropy, and government agencies can come together and explore impact investing efforts—and the systems that support them—to move the needle on social change.

During this invitation-only convening, we will:

  • Learn about and from your work while also exploring case studies of effective place-based investments, including those coming out of San Diego
  • Identify the systems that are working to propel impact investing and ways those systems can connect and ladder up
  • Start an in-depth conversation with the Economic Development Administration (EDA) on how it can act as a “concierge” to federal resources to support impact investing deals and community capacity-building
  • Frame out what regional impact investing ecosystems could look like and identify how local models can be shared with other communities through the EDA and other networks

This event is by invite only.
